When I was first pregnant, I was in it by myself. He said he'd contact me later in life, wanted nothing to do with us. And I was in survival mode. I did what it took to create a life I felt would be conducive to a life with a baby. And I did it. I built my own support system. I am proud of that every single day because she was now my reason for living. When we reconciled to the point of him telling me he wanted to be my baby's father because he changed his mind, he just didn't want me and his feelings for me wouldn't grow because I was carrying our child, I forgave him, and we would talk almost daily. It then became every few days, once a week, and now it's on occasion. Once what I considered to be a significant part of my life is now a brief memory in time. I no longer think of him as I used to. Kindness From a Stranger

I'm sitting here getting my tires replaced because, well, they needed to be replaced. I had put it off for quite some time, and now that one of them has a steady leak, I bit the bullet and decided to just replace them all. I brought work with me because I wasn't exactly sure how long it would take, so I sat down in an area where I could at least respond to emails. Just a couple of minutes after I sat down, a man with his one year old son sat down beside me. He was feeding him, spilled some of his coffee, was all thumbs until he regrouped and began feeding him again. It was so precious. I offered him some wipes because that's what parents do! But he had plenty. We then began talking about our children. He said he has three; a daughter 11, son 8, and his son he was holding and feeding, just a little over a year old. I haven't really been able to decide how I feel. I haven't been able to really identify my emotions just yet. My initial reactions were surprisingly calm. I think I contribute my calmness to how I have learned about my triggers and how they no longer control my life. But at the same time, I think in combination with all of my hormones all over the place and also my views on the situation, I do feel a sense of loss because of the voluntary departure of my beautiful familiar that has now become nothing more than a donor, but also a sense of abundance because of the newness of having a new tenant in my uterus. I think as much as we try to control our lives, there is a greater power out there that shows us that we are not as in control as we think we are. Rolling with the ebb and flow of life has certainly become a lesson that is worth diving into because of how ego can take over and create chaos in an otherwise beautiful experience that should be looked upon as happening for o...
